Live Streamer is a proprietary software program developed by Student Central to simplify the streaming of live events on https://studentcentral.bigteams.com. This software is based upon the widely used Adobe Air software to take the digital information from the camera(s) used at your live event and encode that information into a format that is streamed on the internet. The live steam is produced in the Adobe Flash format so that live streams may be viewed on most all computers and numerous mobile devices. Click on each link in the box on the top to install Live Streamer and Adobe Air onto each computer (either PC or Mac) that will be used to produce the live streams for your team or club. Live Streamer must be installed on the computer used to create the live stream to be seen on BigTeams.

Live Streamer is only accessible by scheduling a streaming event on BigTeams by an authorized representative from a school participating in the Student Central program. The scheduled and approved stream must designate one or more producers. These producers must have active accounts on Student Central.

When beginning a live streaming production, the authorized producer must first launch Live Streamer on the computer being used on site to produce the live stream. The producer will then be prompted to enter the producer's user name (e-mail address) and password. After entering this information, a screen will appear that lists all of the scheduled streams authorizing that specific producer. Once the appropriate stream is selected, the Live Streamer will then be fully launched.

The technical experts at Student Central have preset all of the settings to optimize the streaming with a relatively slow upload speed of 300Kbps - which is the typical speed for consumer broadband, or cell card connectivity. These settings may be manually adjusted by the producer by selecting Options By increasing the video quality setting above the default setting, significantly faster internet speeds are required for both the upload and for the viewer to watch the stream at high quality. It these faster speeds are not available, then buffering may occur frequently and the enjoyment of the stream may be diminished.

The main production screen will show the image being streamed and a meter bar indicating the volume of the audio. The Test Stream button is used to allow the producer to check the connectivity with the Student Central server; and to allow the producer to verify the video and audio settings. Typically this is performed by having another party (on a different computer and with a different internet connection) watch and listen to the test stream from the same links on BigTeams that viewers will use to enjoy the actual live stream. When the test is complete, the producer will select Stop Testing - the test stream will not be archived. When the producer is ready to begin the live production, Start Live Stream will be selected. The drop down window will indicate the successful connection by the computer producing the live stream with the servers that distribute the stream on the internet. If the connection with the server is broken, a message will appear warning the producer of the disconnection. The software will automatically reconnect, if possible. Once the live stream is complete, the producer must select Stop Streaming - the producer will then be asked to verify that he wants to Stop & Archive the live stream or Cancel, which will allow the live stream to continue. If Live Streamer is closed without selecting Stop Streaming, your stream will not be published to the Student Central archive, and will not be viewable after the event is complete. When the stream was originally scheduled, the authorized school representative indicated whether or not the archived stream will be viewable. Even if the scheduler chose to not have the archived stream to be viewable, the archive of the live stream is still retained by Student Central for future use by the school, club or team if so desired. Once Stop & Archive is selected, the links on BigTeams used to view the live stream will be removed. After the live stream has been completed, it takes only a few minutes for the approved archive to be viewable. The archive will be viewable on the Our Videos tab on the club/team's page on BigTeams.
